Joanna, Wait, it contains coffee? Since when? Maybe if you buy a mocha, but there is no coffee in chocolate. Maybe you mean caffeine? There are very tiny amounts of caffeine in chocolate, but not enough to trigger a caffeine addiction.

Mikail, those 300 distinct chemicals are natural chemicals contained in the cocoa bean, not additives. Yes, there are additives in chocolate that you buy in a store, but I don't think those are what Joanna is referring to.

Whether chocolate is physically addictive or simply tastes so good that we develop cultural and behavioral cues that mimic addiction. Chocolate contains over 300 distinct chemicals. They undoubtedly play some role in our love for the stuff. One of the main reasons we get addicted to chocolate is because it contains coffee and everyone knows coffee is addictive. Chocolate produces the release of endorphins in your brain (a natural enhancer of pleasurable feelings) and therefore you get addicted to the resulting feelings.
