All my friends call me a chocolate addict. And they’re right. What I don’t get, though, is why it’s addictive?

Scientists will point to the happy chemicals it releases in your brain.

Dieticians will tell you about the balance of sweet and bitter.

None of which tells me: Why can’t I walk past a bowl of M&Ms without grabbing a handful?

Think about it: Chocolate looks like turd, melts to mush in no time and makes you nauseous. Why the hell do I want to eat it, all the time?

So, do tell: What do you think makes chocolate so addictive?

One Comment on “Why is Chocolate So Damned Addictive?”

  • Whether chocolate is physically addictive or simply tastes so good that we develop cultural and behavioral cues that mimic addiction. Chocolate contains over 300 distinct chemicals. They undoubtedly play some role in our love for the stuff. One of the main reasons we get addicted to chocolate is because it contains coffee and everyone knows coffee is addictive. Chocolate produces the release of endorphins in your brain (a natural enhancer of pleasurable feelings) and therefore you get addicted to the resulting feelings.
