Trader Joe’s line of chocolate candy snacks has yet to really steer me wrong, but I haven’t been bowled over by anything yet either. So today, we’ll find out if the Milk Chocolate Crisps of “thin, curved waves of Belgian chocolate with crunchy bits” falls into the “meh” “OK” or “right on” categories. The promise of Belgian milk chocolate in the ingredients list leaves me hopeful for a good quality chocolate in a fun and crispy shape.

Milk Chocolate Crisps

Packaging
The Pringles-like box is about 9 inches tall and fits great among pantry shelves and the curved ribbons on the package lets me know that if I didn’t catch it before, the treat that I about to enjoy is CURVED.

Inside is a neat little tray with three compartments for the little crisps which are 1.5inches in length and 1.25 inches across.

Appearance
As stated on the back of the box, the crisps are curved for visual interest (check!) and infused with crunchy bits for texture (check!). I have to admit that the clank together like poker chips which gives me an idea for these that are not just for eating. They are pleasing to stack up, stack down and snap pieces off of.

Taste
The little bits of puffed rice for the crispiness is plentiful but almost too tiny as they keep getting stuck in my back molars. The milk chocolate is smooth and I can taste a higher quality chocolate, but it’s leaving behind a lower (almost chocolate candy gold coin kind) after taste. When I bite them, the snap just like a potato chip and with a similar sound which makes them fun to eat. I could not, however, eat these like I do regular potato chips or the unstoppable force that I become with a fresh box of Junior Mints.

All in all? These are OK. Not meh, but most certainly not the best tasting treat from Trader Joe’s yet. These would be fantastic as cupcake or dessert garnish though. Easy, fun and just the right quantity.
