Is it true that you are what you eat? If so, does that mean that my chocolate candy selections have been slowly turning me into a Cadbury or a Milky Way? Doubtful, but if it is true that your candy selection reflects your intelligence then watch out for folks who choose:

Nerds: The sweet and tiny nuggets must represent the bits of information that it’s diner requires. The fact that every box also comes in two flavors shows how diverse it is and the complexity choosing to mix or not to mix said flavors, reflects how deep a Nerd candy lover really is.

Smarties: Ah, but which one? Both of course. There are the Nestle Smarties of Europe, milk chocolate discs covered in a sweet, sweet colorful candy shell that far exceeds the everyday M&M. The bright rainbow of colors, the name and the crunch showcase an intelligent chocolate candy choice.

And then, the other, more well known, American Smarties. Chalky, sour and tiny, these indented candy rounds come in pale colors and different flavors. Only a true candy smarty can tell the subtle difference between the flavors in a darkened movie theater. With taste buds like those, a true candy palette of genius.

Now and Later: Why these? These chewy, individually wrapped, squares exemplify traits like delayed gratification, arithmetic (counting out some for now, counting out some for later) rationing and leadership. Any intelligent candy connoisseur would know to take the reins and organize their candy stash for the day ahead!

Now and Laters

Good and Plenty: Being able to know when to say when, is an important trait amongst the candy elite. Too much and you feel sick, too little and you’re cranky. But with Good and Plenty as your candy pick, you get the advanced taste of licorice combined with the crunchy and chalky goodness surrounding it. Licorice isn’t something that can be enjoyed by everyone, it takes a real candy aficionado.

Sugar Daddy: If you can afford to be someone’s Sugar Daddy, while eating a Sugar Daddy, you must be doing something right. If you come across a man in business suit eating a Sugar Daddy, be sure to question him for his latest stock picks. In this market, he’s considered a financial wizard!

Pay Day: Sigh, the economy. Pay Day candy bars are only eaten by the employed. Fact. OK, maybe not, but it is the choice of the experienced and employed worker, eaten with zeal and confidence that in fact, another Pay Day is coming. Eating a Pay Day on an unemployed day would just hurt and therefore, dumb.

Conversation Hearts: The candy that talks back. A genius can spend all day in his lab without contact with the outside world, if he has his trusty box of Conversation Hearts by his side! Enjoying phrases and words that encourage and inspire, as he plods along the lonely path of research.

  • I want to know where Nerds got their name. Wikipedia doesn’t say, although they do cite some other very interesting information that I never knew about them:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerds_(candy)

Now I want to try the Giant Chewy Nerds, Techno-Nerds, and Neon-Nerds! Nerdtacular.

And I totally disagree on the Nestle Smarties, at least taste-wise. Even as a child well-versed in chocolate, I hated them. If I was offered some today (I’d have to say no since they’re not vegan), I’d pass on taste issues alone. Watch out people; first you buy smarties…Next thing you know, you’ll be buying a Hummer and thinking you’re better than everyone else! My advice: Stick with humble, multi-purpose chocolate chips. They’ll never let you down.
