If you’ll recall from an earlier episode, Cocoazilla tried Taza Chocolate in the flavor of cinnamon with mixed results. And as promised, we obtained another flavor to see if it was the chocolate, the flavor or the taste buds.

Taza Chocolate Almond
Since we already went over what we thought of the packaging and appearance with the cinnamon flavor, I’ll spare you the usual analysis. I still think the shape is really fun and reminds me of soap. The internal appearance is almost identical to the cinnamon flavor, those raw sugar crystals shine out at you and the apparent stone grind of the cacao beans gives it that rough texture.

The ingredients for this bar are pretty simple: organic cane sugar, organic Dominican cacao beans, organic roasted California almonds, kosher salt.

Taste
Now we’re into the part where we find out if $4 gets spent again on Taza Chocolate Candy! The smell of the dark chocolate is super strong and almost overpowering. I don’t really smell almonds the way you would when you eat a Hershey bar with almonds, but they are basically pulverized into the chocolate.
It’s gritty with sugar and almost buttery! After the initial bite and the chocolate starts dissolving on the tongue a buttery texture comes out in force. It’s a really unusual sensation from chocolate and leaves almost no aftertaste. If you asked me to tell you what flavor this was outside of the package, I couldn’t. I most certainly like more than the cinnamon one, but will I be spending another $4 to try the vanilla or chili? Nah. This was good, but it will not be making it onto my regular guilty pleasures list.

tried it. strange at first but then the taste becomes strangely addictive. I like it overall though it’s not as sweet as traditional chocolate.

Yep, I agree that the texture is strangely addictive. I think the discs are slightly a bit sweet for my tastes. I plan on getting the 70% bar, or maybe even the 80% bar of plain chocolate to try next time. Problem is, my understanding is that those bars are a bit more refined and are not as “gritty” as the discs. I’m hoping they come out with a 70% bar that has the granular texture!
