Not sure what else to call it….I picked not on the flavors listed on the wrappers, but the colors of the packages. I like blue, teals and greens, so obviously I went for the cool color package over the pink, magenta and purple offering.

Target has been selling their Choxie line of chocolates for a couple of years now and yes, my hesitance on the quality of such a chocolate is what has held me back from giving it a try. Also that and the wacky color schemes, it just seemed like it would be cheap tasting. But, what can I say? I finally got brave. Also, there was a sale.

Let’s check out:

Packaging
I think I made it pretty clear, I picked this 3 pack just because of the packaging. I admit it. I judged this book by it’s cover. Let’s move on from the pretty colors….

Appearance
Awww, adorable little post modern polka dots are embossed into the chocolate. (I am proclaiming them post modern, it’s my blog and I can do what I want to.) The interior of each bar is showing chunks of nuts, so I can cross that off the list. Each mini bar came with two sections, about 1 3/4 inches in length, 1 inch in width.

Taste
None of them smelled bad or cheap really. In fact they all were quite pleasant and all have the same base milk chocolate recipe, it’ll come down to the nuts. It’s always about the nuts.

Choxie Milk Chocolate Almond Toffee Mini Bar

The light blue wrapper one – it took me a couple of bites to get a bit of almond, though I can definitely taste the toffee bits. The milk chocolate is the sickly sweet kind, creamy, yet almost overpowering the almond and toffee. It reminds me of something I would find on the bottom of my Easter basket.

Choxie Milk Chocolate Honey Cashew Mini Bar

The royal blue wrapper one- I like this one better already, the taste of roasted cashews pop out immediately and the tiniest crunches of honey bits make up for the so-so milk chocolate base, which coats the inside of my mouth more than I would like it to.

Choxie Milk Chocolate Praline Pecan Mini Bar

The teal wrapper one- this one for some reason looked darker than the others, despite the same base as it’s counterparts. The praline coated pecans really stand out against the milk chocolate and make this one by far the best.

When I examined the wrappers closer to see why this particular one was a little more bitter and a little less coat-y for an aftertaste, I found that the almond toffee bar contained vegetable oil, the honey cashew one contained peanut oil and the praline pecan bar contained no oils. Interesting…..

  • I was also lured in by the creative, post-modern choxie packaging. The chocolate is good, but it’s not something I lay awake nights thinking about. Toffee was my personal favorite.

    Thanks for the helpful review!
