We all know that Starbucks hot chocolate is made with milk, a good chocolate syrup, real whip cream and that passes for now, but Starbucks has decided to take it another step further. Besides their classic hot chocolate, which is now referred to as the “signature hot chocolate” they are offering hazelnut flavored hot chocolate and the intriguing offering of salted caramel hot chocolate. If anything you wonder if this is just another attempt to keep up with the growing salted caramel trend that is popping up more and more with chocolatiers across the nation. And you figure that if Starbucks is doing it, it must have really gone commercial. But the question still remains, is it any good?
The short answer: Yes. Should you buy it, drink it and love it? Yes.
Here’s why.
The basic hot chocolate is pretty decent at Starbucks as I was saying. Not horrific but not great. Add caramel to that, plus a big dollop of whip cream on top, drizzle caramel sauce on that and then put a generous helping of large salt crystals on top and you have got yourself a delicious fall treat.
Add to that the Christmastime cups are out and it’s a definite winning combination. The first sip gives you all 4 flavors at once, the chocolate, caramel, cream and salt. But, as the level of liquid in the cup goes down, the whip cream melts and disperses the caramel and salt throughout the drink, making it a longer lasting experience than you might have originally thought since it would appear what makes it unique is all piled on top.
To get the most out of your $3.25 (plus tax) for a tall, sip at first and savor. Then swirl within the cup to get that cream, caramel and salt distributed.
Ahhhh.

Mmmm this was delicious, I had it on a rainy night and I just savored the whole thing. I found myself a little thirsty probably because of the salt, so have a glass of water near. But yes this is like a dessert drink
