Qbel Crispy Rice Wafer Bars
11 Sep
Made in the Netherlands, Qbel is a hybrid name of the creator’s wife, Isabel and for quality food. It’s a low calorie offering of crispy rice puffs, wafer cookies and Belgian dark chocolate (170 calories for the 2 bars) and was brought to me by a vegan friend though with skimmed milk powder and egg yolk- not so friendly to her!

Qbel Dark Chocolate Wafer Bars
Packaging
Honestly I thought it was an Aussie hairstyling product at first, with same purple color and wacky name. I do always enjoy a package with a picture of the product in an animated form!

Appearance
It looks a lot like a chocolate covered granola bar. About 4 inches in length and an inch wide, they’re like the Big Kit Kat, only not as smooth. The chocolate coating smells outstanding.

Appearance Inside
The bar broke apart very cleanly and the layers are really defined. I like this, a lot of times when I break a Kit Kat or something similar apart, there’s a dusty mess.

Taste
The wafers aren’t too cardboard-y tasting and cover the taste of the rice puffs, but don’t leave a paper aftertaste. This is mostly because of the chocolate. The chocolate is amazing. Very melty though, as soon as my fingers make contact with the bar, transferring happens, but it’s all worth it. It reminds me a lot of when you take those generic brand wafer cookies from the grocery store and dip them in a chocolate fountain. Not that I would ever do such a thing. Besides the dark chocolate coating on this bar is far better. Because of the stringent chocolate guidelines in Europe, there’s no trace of the faux stuff that’s being peddled around in the US. This is the good stuff.

yay! I saw it and thought it must be good. They have some other offerings too, check their website. Maybe I’ll splurge one of these days and try a bite. Or maybe they can find a way to make a vegan version!!

No plastic poster board bodies and fake smiles. It’s awesome when you can find a good company to support AND their products are top notch.
I love that they look like normal, real people, with a real family and real lives. Like the kind of people you might find living next-door.
Qbel, please try a vegan version!

Hi,
Many thanks for your comments above.
Beginning in January many Whole Foods stores will carry a Double Dark 70% Chocolate version which will be VEGAN.
Enjoy.

@Bahram – Thank you, thank you! I’m excited to try it. I originally purchased it at PCC here (local co-op, much like Whole Foods), so I’m hoping they’ll also carry the new flavor. Maybe Cocoa-Zilla will let me review it!
Good luck and keep up the yummyness!
