Purdy’s Melties
07 May
Purdy’s Chocolates has a line of chocolate candy called “Meltie” in various flavors, of which today we are trying the Mint Meltie and the Orange Meltie in dark and milk chocolate respectively. Both flavors come in milk or dark, but I’m not made of money, so I just picked one of each. I am starting to run low now on my Purdy’s haul, so that can only mean one thing: it’s time to go back to Canada!
Purdy’s Chocolate Meltie
Packaging
The bright orange and green of the packaging is fun, yet does lend a sense of less than quality because of the flashiness. They do include tiny images of mint leaves and oranges though, which I always enjoy. And since these are from Canada, they have the added fun of French on the label as well.

Appearance
The long thin bars remind me of Twix, but with more standardized ripple. They look smooth and polished and delicious! They broke apart rather easily, almost too easily, but the are “melties” after all and they do need to be handled minimally as the heat from my hands began softening and melting the chocolate candy almost immediately. The interior looks like and 3 Musketeers nougat like, but thicker. The mint meltie looks a little denser than the orange, but since that is the dark chocolate one, I’m not really surprised.

Dark Chocolate Mint Meltie
Taste
The mint smell is nice and strong like an After 8 Dinner Mint (remember those?!) and the chocolate is rich and deep in flavor but not too sharp as the mint takes that edge off. The filling has the consistency of butter, but is not slowing me down at all other than after a couple of bites I am very satisfied and thinking I will finish the rest of the bar later.
Milk Chocolate Orange Meltie
Taste
The smell of orange is the same orange when cracking open one of those chocolate oranges, the milk chocolate is creamy and light. It’s so light that it’s pretty much just the vehicle for delivering the orange-y goodness. The orange filling is actually better in orange flavor than a chocolate orange is. It’s stronger without the milk chocolate aftertaste/stickiness that sometimes lingers after eating a slice. The texture isn’t as thick as the mint version which is aiding to my next few bites. It’s all still very rich though, which means that I think I am done eating for now.
Verdict? I love the orange Meltie. The mint one is good, but the orange one makes me want to buy another.
