Purdy’s Creamy Yolk Eggs
31 Mar
While wandering through Vancouver, B.C. Canada the Purdy’s Chocolate factory was discovered and a stockpile of chocolate candy treats were purchased. While Purdy’s is not hard to find in Canada, they have retail outlets and carriers everywhere, finding the actual factory was a fun find. Also, viewing the $500 giant chocolate bunny, Charlie, who is unfortunately not on their site nor did I get a photo of this 3 foot tall chocolate rabbit. For shame, I know. But I did partake in some Easter chocolate goodness in the form of Creamy Yolk eggs. As a rabid Cadbury Creme Eggs fan (I eat them as soon as they come out in February) I was very interested in giving these chocolate fondant confections a try. I was able to get these for $1.50 each at the factory.
Purdy’s Creamy Chocolate Yolk Eggs in Milk and Dark Chocolate
Packaging
I do enjoy that these are simpler to get into over the foil of a Cadbury’s Creme Egg, but that’s really neither here nor there. It’s pretty straightforward, I was more interested in the fact that these came in milk and dark chocolates.

Appearance
The chocolate is smooth and shiny with little swirls on the top that remind me of the See’s chocolate eggs at Easter. The flat bottom makes it easier to grip that the sometimes unwieldy Cadbury egg, but doesn’t that technically makes this an oval not an egg?

Appearance Inside
The chocolate walls are not as thick as a Cadbury’s but I actually think that works well for this egg so that the feature is the off white and bright yellow fondant center of the yolk. The fondant is wonderfully thick, yet a little runny.

Taste
I want a dozen more of these. The chocolate is creamy and doesn’t overpower the fondant which is (gasp, I hate to say it) better than the Cadbury’s Creme Egg. It’s smoother, creamier and just taste bud tingling awesome. The chocolate because it’s not as thick as a Cadbury’s is a nice change of pace. The dark chocolate version is even more unique because of the bitterness that the dark chocolate lends to the overall taste. I actually prefer the milk chocolate version in this case, but it’s fun to see what a dark chocolate creme egg tastes like! The bitterness that is left at the end from the chocolate is not nearly as tasty as the finish that the milk chocolate egg provided.
