Pigall, another chocolate candy treat from the land of Sweden and also by the Marabou company (owned by Kraft Foods) has a name, that well, doesn’t make you want to equate it with chocolate.

Despite it’s moniker, the treat boasts to be “milk chocolate truffle nut” which is much more appetizing sounding. So let’s see if taste can triumph branding and smell just as sweetly.

Pigall: Marabou Chocolate Candy Bar

Packaging
The pink swirly text makes me think of bubblegum and paired with the blue reminds me of the 1980’s for some reason. The picture shows that the inside of the bar may contain chunks of something.

This chocolate candy was very melty. I tried opening it and the chocolate coating was coming off with the wrapper and leaving the nougat behind. I stuck in the fridge for a bit and had a much easier time removing if from the package.

Appearance
This is a very soft chocolate bar, as the picture shows. Just warming it a little and my hands got sticky and the chocolate coating on top got flattened a little. It smells faintly of chocolate and liquor. Like a fruit liquor. The bar is broken up into two pieces for twice the enjoyment!

Appearance Inside
Very, very soft! It didn’t break apart as much as it was pulled apart. Softer than a 3 Musketeers inside and the chocolate coating was just as soft. It looks wonderfully fluffy though.

Taste
The chunks that were visible on the package and less visible in the actual bar are rice krispy bits! The chocolate coating flavor is very muted, the nougat, which appears to be more of a mousse is light, creamy and chocolately. It reminds me a lot of warmed buttercream cake frosting. The crunch gives the bar a weird texture that takes over as soon as you start chewing. The crispies also get stuck in your back molars which gives it a breakfast cereal aftertaste. As I keep eating the bar, it become less weird and more wishing that I had bought two!

    - I often have that reaction with Swedish things. Especially Swedish boys!

  • I love pigall! One of my favorite swedish chocolate. :D but it dissapears in your mouth so quick!

  • oh my god! i loooooove pigalls!! my boyfriend was out in sweden doing some training at the airport, i went out to visit part way through and brought a selection of the weirdest looking chocolates i could find – basically anything i’d never tried before and couldn’t get in england, and pigalls came out on top, so much so that i took a huge batch home and when my boyfriend came back from sweden he brought a whole load more, which unfortunately only lasted the weekend!!
