The official name is a mouthful alone: New Tree Lavender Tranquility (Soothing) Fine Belgian Milk Chocolate. So can a chocolate candy with a name like that stand up to the fanciness within that it boasts on the outside?

“Inner calm is just a bite away. New Tree Tranquility takes soothing milk chocolate and infuses it with lavender and lime blossom, known for their peaceful properties. A little R&R in a chocolate bar!”

New Tree Lavender Milk Chocolate

Packaging
The matte paper wrapper of white and lavender does make me think of soap, a lot. In a way that I almost fear eating it since I really dislike the taste of soap. At the same time, it’s got that calming effect that the “tranquilness” of the chocolate bar promises in the first place. The back claims that 1 bar of this chocolate candy is equal to 3 cups of lime blossom tea.

Appearance
The smell of lavender wafted out strongly as soon as I broke the silver foil packaging, reminding me of soap and lotion, but the faint wisp of milk chocolate that accompanied it helped to break that up. The chocolate surface is super smooth and breaks apart easily and softly.

Taste
The first taste I get is lavender, as I feared. Then followed by what might be lime blossom, I’m not sure. Either way, it’s gross. It is like eating a spoonful of potpourri and is not relaxing or tranquil. The milk chocolate would be wonderful by itself, I struggled to find that flavor and savor it but I was overpowered by the gross aftertaste.

And at $5 per bar, I’ll try something else.

  • I love this chocolate so much I specifically searched for it online.

I read the above quote a bit shocked. This is truly one of my all time favorite chocolate combinations — I love it, and I love gifting it to friends, and employees.

  • I don’t think I was ever meant to eat flowery chocolate. I tried a lavender truffle recently and found a similar result. It smelled fantastic though.
