M&M Premiums Triple Chocolate Candy Review

As I was walking past the aisles of my local Freddy’s, I reached what I like to call the “sin aisle” of my local Freddy’s, the candy aisle, and decided to find something to satisfy my sweet tooth. Now, I’m no chocolate connoisseur, but I do love most any chocolate candy.
Anyway, today I decided to opt for something a little more sophisticated, so I went past the ‘normal’ candy section and browsed the higher end chocolates. As I was carefully scanning the shelves, I happened to spot a very sleek and colorful box that happened to be made by the M&M brand. The specific box I chose was the Triple Chocolate which has a combination of milk, dark, and white chocolate. By the looks of it, M&M seems to be trying to extend their line of products with a premium product and I decided to try it out to see if it really was any better. I also bought a normal bag of M&M’s to compare.
As you can tell from the picture, the shape is unique where, unlike the traditional rectangular package, the sides are curved inwards. Also, one added “luxury” feature was the resealable lip found in the pouch inside the box which is nice if you can’t finish the whole box. The color scheme was mostly a play on different shades of purple with various circular shapes on the front which made it feel like it came out of the 60′s. I didn’t notice this when I bought it, but the actual chocolate candy is an interesting mix of purple which gives it a tie dye/metallic feel to it. The cross section reveals several layers, which I would assume are the three different chocolate layers of heaven. As you can see, it’s quite a bit larger than a regular M&M.
Taste/Texture
Here, I did a comparison with the normal and the premium chocolate candy. The first thing you notice about the normal M&M is the hard crunchy texture. This is then followed by the smooth finish of the milk chocolate. This is not the case with the premium M&M. I was expecting the crunch, but was instead treated to a soft explosion of creaminess which lingers for a bit as you have to work the chocolate around for it to dissolve completely(most likely due to its size). I couldn’t distinguish very well between the different types of chocolate, but it was still very good.
Final Verdict
While the price may not justify the difference in taste (almost double per oz. of the regular bag of M&M’s), I still would recommend giving it a try.

Interesting concept. Can M&Ms really go classy? I’m not so sure…besides, their appearance reminds me of cartoon dinosaur eggs!
How does the nutritional info stack up with regular M&Ms? The shape of the box can’t be a coincidence. Notice how the box curves inward? Reminds me of the milk ad campaign where they turn a milk glass into a slenderized female figure. If the M&Ms box shape was reversed, it wouldn’t look nearly so “premium” would it. Hmph.
