Hachez Chocolatier is actually a German company (I know I was thinking Spanish at first) that has an assortment of interesting flavors. Blackberry, Strawberry Pepper, Mango Chili, Sea Salt and Tomato… I would have mentioned more, but their website is severely lacking for a product list in English. There’s a picture, but I can’t make out all the tiny writing.

Today’s flavor is the Cocoa d’Arriba Blackberry & Cocoa Nibs, 77% cacao. A “superior mild dark chocolate.” We shall see…
Packaging
I really liked the pictures, wrapping, the heavy foil inner wrapper and overall heft of the bar. At less than $4, it works. I’ve got till May of 2010 to eat it.

It’s dark, smooth and very crisp to break apart. It was almost too hard to get it to cleave apart without smashing my hand into something. The inside of the bar has a lot of little tiny ridges, but did not crumble at all. The smell is amazing, a sweet, dark and almost smoky flavor for the nose.

Taste
The chocolate crumbles very neatly when bitten into, the dark is bitter and almost too bitter. There are bits of crunchy cocoa nibs and the blackberry comes in over everything as is more of an aroma than an actual taste. I really like that it’s subtle and different than any other fruit flavored chocolate that I have tried.
