All right Godiva, you’re fancy, we know it. But now you’re appearing in grocery stores, bookstores and drugstores with your truffle bar line. It’s not cheap as far as grocery store chocolate bars go (about $2.50-4.00 a bar) but it is cheaper in the “Godiva” sense. The question is- does this chocolate truffle candy bar stand up to the Godiva name or will chocolate chip mint be just too weird for anyone?

Godiva Chocolate Chip Mint

Packaging
The bar feels dense and solid and has a very upscale looking wrapper of gold and green stripes with the ever favorite picture of the item the chocolate candy will be including in it. It looks like it would match someone’s living room, but I like it.

Appearance
The four generous sized blocks with a giant “G” stamped on top remind me a lot of wooden blocks and I have this need to stack them. The creamy center of light green looks sugary delicious and the chocolate is quite soft to the touch.

Taste
Ummmm, for $3, this is not good. The mint is very sugary and thick in a way that reminds me of cake frosting. The dark chocolate is much softer than a good dark chocolate should be which caused me to closer examine the packaging. The front wrapper says “dark chocolate” but under ingredients, bittersweet chocolate is the first thing listed. While technically not false, it tastes false. I expected better from Godiva. It reminds me of those After Eight mints but without any crispness. It’s not the worst piece of chocolate candy I’ve ever consumed, but it most certainly not something I’ll be buying in the future either.
