In an effort to create their own stimulus package of sorts, the Mars Candy Company is launching a campaign for Free Chocolate Fridays, coined the “Real Chocolate Relief Act.” The media blitz launched yesterday with a full page ad in USA Today, How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris (also known as Doogie) handing out 20,000 packages of candy in front of M&M’s World in New York City, joined by the Red and Yellow M&Ms. The campaign started this week and will last through September.
By visiting www.realchocolate.com, you’ll be asked to enter your birthdate and then be able to access coupons for free full size chocolate candy, one per person, per week, every Friday starting at 9am EST. The coupons are on a first come, first served basis, so west coast people will have to arise at 6am PST in order to get a piece of the action.
Of course that is provided that you can even get through to the site. I tried this morning, entered my birthdate and it crashed. Other attempts just pulled up server errors indicating that this marketing ploy is indeed working. Guess I’ll have to wait to gain access for my Free Chocolate Candy Friday. Maybe in July when some of the hype has died down.
Additional tidbits on the Chocolate Relief Act can be found around the web for more on the campaign, but trust me, all you need to know is that going to the site enables you to obtain coupons for free chocolate.
That’s really all anyone needs to know!
