Ethel M Chocolates Part 2
14 Jul
As promised in a previous Ethel M post, it’s time now to get down to the chocolate bars and step away from the truffles and liquor filled chocolate candies of the Ethel M boxed sets.
The chocolate bar collection from Ethel M is pretty standard as far as flavoring offers go, in particular when compared to some of their more creative filled chocolates. There is: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, mocha cappuccino, peanut butter, caramel, mint and raspberry.
Personally having sampled the peanut butter, raspberry and mint collections, my initial reaction is: meh. Not horrible, not great, certainly not worth $3 each. If you’re going to try these chocolate candy bars, go for 3 pack at $6 and not the individually priced bars and save yourself a couple of bucks. The chocolate itself is pretty smooth, not bitter at all, but it’s the fillings that fail to give that powering taste to rival or blend with the chocolate. Particularly the peanut butter, which was bland by comparison to most peanut butter chocolate concoctions.
The mint bar I had purchased was deformed inside, thus robbing me of the full experience of mint filling, which reminds me of something I have tasted before but cannot put my finger on. Either way, I’d rather have a box of Junior Mints. As for raspberry, which was a brilliant dark pink, had an almost grittiness to the filling instead of the smoothness that the peanut butter and mint fillings had.
The good news is the nutritional information on the bar is realistic, one serving. None of that trying to make it look better by halving the fat and calorie information and pretending it’s two chocolate bars when we know no one eats just half and walks away. Sure a couple of sweeties might split one, but let’s face it, most of us eat it the whole thing at once.
In conclusion, Ethel M chocolate candy bars: they’re OK. Now off to the 7-11 to obtain some Junior Mints!
