Dove Does Desserts
08 Sep
Dove Chocolates does desserts. But did they do it right? Taking a few timid steps into the Cocoa-Heaven universe with Tiramisu and Bananas Foster, the latest offerings seem to be headed in a most interesting and delicious direction.
What we tried: Tiramisu.
Bang for the Buck: 20-ish pieces in the oddly shaped package at 3/$5 was a good deal. Particularly because of their marketing efforts, I was able procure a $1 off coupon from my mail box, combined with the sale at Target, made this a well worthwhile chocolate candy adventure.
Taste: Good initial taste! Smooth dark chocolate with a creamy filling. The filling wasn’t overly sweet and really did taste like Tiramisu. There was definitely a coffee taste, a creamy taste and chocolate. The only drawback really being that afterwards there was a bit of a funny after taste. Eating another one didn’t intensify this either, but made it better. Eat these in pairs for maximum enjoyment.
Packaging: I still hate the weirdo shape box. It’s the same box that the Dove flavored caramels shared and those tasted pretty icky. The copper foil wrappers were fine, but the inside messages (that are inside all Dove chocolates) were as usual uninventive and boring. Honestly, simplify. Instead of telling me it’s a bubble bath kind of day or to write a love letter this week, go for a little whimsy. Try putting in “Waffles” or “Hi!”
What’s next for the line of desserts? Who knows. I tried looking at their website and could not find anything, nor did I have the patience to wait for the awful flash design of “Dove” in cursive to appear on every single page. The good news is their chocolate is far better than their website. Which if were translated into chocolate, would be on par taste-wise with chocolatey coating. Posing as the real thing, but upon further exploration, found to be waxy, tasteless and sticks to your teeth.

Maybe I just didn’t get the aftertaste. I thought this was a pretty dang accurate representation of Tiramisu’s taste, especially in chocolate form.
*Two resounding thumbs up*

It was alright for me. No aftertaste, but I just may not be a true tiramisu fan. Creamy caramel was good, and noticed it’s actually the chocolate that is flavored. I originally thought the caramel was flavored. I call that a blonde moment, which I have many

I saw they also make a Bananas Foster one, which I think I’d be more inclined to like than Tiramisu. But Mars/Dove seems to do coffee flavored stuff pretty well.

My favorite of the Dove Dessert series. Really stayed true to the tiramisu flavor.
By the way, I don’t appreciate the suggestive and tawdry nature of this post headline.

I thought it was ok! I agree about the aftertaste. It might have something to do with whether or not you are a coffee drinker? It’s definitely the best of the flavored Dove chocolates I’ve tried yet, but don’t think I’d buy them myself. My fault with the entire Dove flavored line is that they’re trying too hard. I’d rather have just a hint of the flavor rather than an overstated presence of it. European chocolates don’t seem to have this problem!
