Dipped in Patriotism and Deliciousness – July 4th Dessert
Celebrate this year’s Independence Day with a red, white and blue chocolate treat. Just in time for the Fourth of July, these desserts are not only patriotic and fun, but are simple to make. I went to my neighborhood grocery store and picked up a bag of Ghirardelli Chocolate Premium Baking Chips in Classic White Chocolate. The bags are found in the baking aisle of most supermarkets, and can be picked up for about the price of two Snickers bars.
What you’ll need:
White chocolate baking chips
Blue sugar sprinkles
1) Add the baking chips to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave and stir in 30 second intervals.
2) Dip the first two-thirds of a clean and dry strawberry into the melted chocolate.
3) Spoon the blue sugar sprinkles onto the bottom third of the strawberry.
4) Place the completed strawberry on wax paper to cool…and you’re done! (Unless of course you want more than one—in that case, repeat steps 1-4.)
While preparing the chips I noticed that they didn’t quite melt as fast as white chocolate normally does. The chocolate also seemed very thick while dipping the strawberries, despite white chocolate’s low melting point. So I investigated a bit further and discovered that I was duped! Although they were labeled premium baking chocolate, they didn’t contain any cocoa butter. Despite this, I enjoyed the treat and would definitely make it again.
